Social Media Influence
The good people at dashburst has prepared for us an infographic on Influence and Social Media. The infographics look at how social media is everywhere and a comparative breakdown of social media platforms looking at the user base of Facebook, Youtube, Google+, Twitter, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Flickr and Pinterest. Facebook takes the top spot with 1 billion active monthly users, followed by YouTube at 800 million and Google+ at 343millon. These figures are measured as of January 2013.
In terms of influence, it starts by looking at the amount of time consumed by each of these social media sites in a month. While Facebook users spent the most time, an average of 405 minutes a month, it’s Tumblr and Pinterest that shares the second spot with an average of 89 minutes per month and Twitter comes in third with its users spending 21 minutes on average.
The following sections, ‘It’s Habit-Forming’ and ‘It Influences Life Offline’, makes an interesting read as it shows the typical habits of modern times and the type of offline activities users are likely to do because of social media.
Finally, we take a glimpse at how social media helps businesses with the three most popular tools being Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn although there are more than double who uses Twitter and Facebook compared to LinkedIn. As with any business marketing activity, the important thing to look at is the conversion rate. How many followers actually buy products or services from the company? 64% of Twitter users and 51% of Facebook users are likely to buy the brands they follow online which is more than some of the conventional marketing avenues.
So whatever your cause (or business), start using social media now to influence people and establish relationships online.
